This Friday, March 2nd, the D & L Trail Alliance's Lehigh Valley Regional Council will gather with allies including the Appalachian Mountain Club to hold a groundbreaking ceremony celebrating the opening of the newest section of the D & L (Delaware and Lehigh) Trail.
The D & L Trail is a popular hiking trail that winds through scenic and historic areas of Wyoming and Carbon County, the Lehigh
Valley, and the Delaware Valley, retracing the path that anthracite
coal once took from mine to market.
Allentown's East Side Trail will close a short but critical gap in the 165-mile
trail. This is an exciting development for D & L National Heritage Cooridor and for Allentown residents who now have a local access point for the trail, making it easier to get out for a walk or bike ride along the canal path. For more information about getting on the many trails in the Lehigh Valley, check out Highlands Mobile, our free web-based application for mobile phones that features over forty hikes in the Pennsylvania Highlands, including the D & L Trail.
The event will take place at eleven o'clock on North Dauphin Street between East Lloyd Street and Allentown Drive.
