The SRT opened in 2011 and is currently five miles long, spanning parts of Hellertown Borough, Lower Saucon Township, and Upper Saucon Township. The SRT will soon reach Coopersburg Borough and the Bucks County border at Springfield Township. There is strong potential to extend the rail trail all the way to the outskirts of Quakertown Borough. One of the two primary routes of the PA Highlands Trail is envisioned to piggyback on this outstanding trail.
