The Appalachian Mountain Club and PA Highlands Trail
Steering Committee will host a public meeting on Monday, April 29 from 7:00 -
9:00 PM at the
Richland Township Municipal Building (1328 California Road, Quakertown,
PA 18951). The purpose of the meeting is to gather input on the Quakertown Area
Master Trails Plan study.
Residents, businesses and organizations interested in improving
bicycle-pedestrian access are invited to come out and share ideas about how to
create walking and bicycling trail connections between parks, schools, ball
fields, housing developments and shopping areas.
Over the past few decades, municipalities in the Quakertown region have made
great progress in providing local residents with parks and safe places to walk,
bike and hike. A new effort to develop the PA Highlands Trail has helped focus
attention on opportunities to connect both existing and planned local trails.
This public meeting is part of a special planning effort to develop a
‘Quakertown Area Master Trails Plan’ -- which in addition to Quakertown -- will
include several other townships and boroughs surrounding the borough.
Bob Thomas and Mike Szilagyi of
Campbell Thomas & Co are bringing their expertise to help AMC and PHTN Steering Committee find alternative trail routes for the PA Highlands Trail and identify ways to facilitate non-motorized mobility in a variety of landscapes including rural, urban and suburban.
