Rails-to-Trails Conservancy has released an excellent report about the many trails situated alongside active
freight and passenger rail lines.
America's Rails With Trails takes a look at 88
rails-with-trails in 33 states, and provides information for trail planners to increase awareness about rail-with-trail
possibilities.
This report is particularly encouraging for both trail advocates and rail advocates as it highlights the possibilities for simultaneous development and use of rail corridors for transportation and recreation.
AMC is working with project partners to investigate the possibility of extending the Saucon Rail Trail by utilizing an unused portion of the rail line between Coopersburg and Quakertown for use as a multi-use trail and a trunk route of the PA Highlands Trail.
